Why:

For this visual brand language design project, the assignment was to design a breakfast appliance using a company of your choosing's visual brand language. I chose to design an electric kettle using Tesla's visual brand language. Through my research I found out that to match Tesla's products, I would need to make a high-end, technologically advanced kettle. The purpose of the product was to seamlessly integrate into Tesla's ecosystem with its technologies and aesthetics.

What:

The product is an electric kettle, visually inspired by Tesla's wall charger, which is able to connect to your phone and lets you to have your water heat up wherever you are. It also matches the look of Tesla's vehicles and even the water dispenser is the shape of the Tesla steering wheel. The touchscreen on the side provides for direct temperature control, while the app is best for specific customization. It can even be mounted on your wall or rest on your counter.

How:

When researching Tesla's existing products, I wanted the electric kettle to match the premium look and feel to fit in seamlessly with their product line. I used their wall charger for the initial shape and chose materials which perform well, but also closely match the materials on the car. By lowering the amount of buttons down to a minimum and adding an external touchscreen, we also matched the clean, minimalist interior of Tesla vehicles. The prototype was made by yellow foam and spray paint, while the renders were made on Fusion360.
